To reduce force applied to a body part when causing a placement section to move following the body part and facilitate attachment/detachment of the body part in a body support device including an operation mode where the placement section on which the body part is placed moves following the body part, and an operation mode where the movement of the placement section is restricted.
When an electromagnet 52 is excited, an arm placed on a terminal arm 5 is clamped to be fixed to the terminal arm 5. A mode determination computer 7 detects force and a torque applied to the terminal arm 5 via a force sensor 45, and determines whether or not a doctor performing an operation tries to move the terminal arm 5 following the movement of the own arm. When the doctor tries to move it following the movement of the own arm, the mode determination computer 7 releases the braking by brakes 31A, 32A, and 33A. Thereby, the doctor can easily move the terminal arm 5 by causing the terminal arm to follow the movement of the own arm.
