PURPOSE: To minimize disturbance occurring in an exhaust gas stream by providing the exhaust duct of a gas turbine engine or the like with a first edge attached to a first member, a second edge attached to a second member, and a continuous surface extending between the edges and separating their junction from the gas stream.

CONSTITUTION: Before a shield 50 is installed, the downstream portion 32 (second member) of a central body 26 is first attached to the upstream portion 30 of the central body 26 by the combination 72 of bolts and anchor nuts. The shield 50 is then slid over the complete central body 26 until its flange 80 is engaged with the flange 49 of the upstream portion 30 (first member). Next, the bolts 68 are attached to the anchor nuts 69. The shield 50 is thereby firmly locked to the central body 26. Once properly positioned, the outer surface 59 of a side part 56 imparts a substantially continuous aerodynamic surface covering a coupling joint between the upstream portion 30 and downstream portion 32 of the central body.
