PURPOSE: To improve the operability of a book original reader and to automatize page-turning and read-scanning by providing a means which sets a page range to be read in a book original and which automatically turns the page and reads it.
CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a read/total pages setting means which reads the book original and which inputs the number of total pages. The head page to be read is opened, the book original is placed on an original read position the book original is read-scanned and the page is turned. Thus, the original of range to be read in the book original is automatically read- scanned and the page is turned only by an operation for opening the head page to be read and for placing the book original in the original read position. Thus, a trouble for reading original information can be eliminated and superior operability can be obtained.
