To provide a book stacking device, in which books can be carried continuously at a high speed without providing a plurality of stacking parts, and in which both stacker type and conveyor type stacking methods can be performed in a single machine.

This book stacking device 1 comprises a book carrying base 2 and a delivery table 3. The book carrying base 2 comprises a book pressing member 5 that is capable of swinging, a kicker 6, and a sensor 7 for counting at a book carrying passage end part. The delivery table 3 has a slot 9 at a book stacking position of a horizontal base 8, with a rod 12a protruded. On the horizontal base 8, a detachable receiving plate 15 is rotatably provided at a lower end of the book carrying base 2. As the rod 12a is advanced, it is protruded from the slot 9 and kept to be abutted to a group of books 17. As it is retracted, it is hidden under the lower surface of the slot 9 without getting in contact with a next group of books 16 dropped continuously.
