To operate with operability equivalent to that of a conventional ring-binding bookbinder when the function for performing ring-binding bookbinding and the function for performing punching process are respectively imparted to independent devices.
A bookbinding system includes an image forming apparatus; a plurality of punching processors; and a ring-binding bookbinder. The punching processors and the ring-binding bookbinder are connected to the rear stage of the image forming apparatus. The bookbinding system includes a ring bookbinding mode in which after the punching process is performed by the punching processors, the punched paper is subjected to ring-binding process by the ring-binding bookbinder; and a bookbinding mode in which the ring-binding process is performed by the ring-binding bookbinder without the punching process by the punching processors. These processing modes are selected and carried out by a ring bookbinding tab 174 or a bookbinding tab 175. When the ring bookbinding mode is selected, the punching process is performed by automatically selecting the punching processor of a punching type allowing the ring-binding process by the ring-binding bookbinder.
