To provide a booklet page turning device which enables smooth turning of pages of high rigidity paper like pages of low rigidity paper, as well as a method for turning booklet pages.

This booklet page turning device includes a lower adsorption part which adsorbs the back surface of a booklet through a first terminal and a second terminal each of three terminal solenoid valves, with the assistance of an intake by a vacuum pump, an upper adsorption part which adsorbs the face surface of paper of the booklet with the assistance of an intake from the vacuum pump, and the three terminals. In addition, the device operates under two states; that is, in the first state at the beginning, the first terminal is connected with the vacuum pump and the second terminal is connected with the lower adsorption part. Further, in the second state, the air introduced from a third terminal, is supplied to the lower adsorption part through the second terminal, and thereby, the lower adsorption part is to be set free from an adsorbing operation. Then, in the successive first state, the air introduced as a result of the lower adsorption part becoming free from the adsorbing operation, is allowed to flow to the first terminal from the second terminal, and thus, the upper adsorption part is to be set free from the adsorbing operation. These series of operation steps are performed by the solenoid valve.
