To determine a position for performing a specified processing on the surface of a sheet of a booklet even if the position at one end edge, becoming the reference of a first mark, is not uniform due to dirt or break.
A page mark 52 on the opening page of a bank book is read out (step S2), and a decision is made whether the position at the lower end edge of each bar of the page mark is uniform or not in the opening direction (step S4). If it is not uniform (N at step S4), accurate position at the lower end edge of the page mark is estimated by operation based on the positional data at the lower end edge of each bar (step S6). Subsequently, a line extending in the print line direction indicative of the estimated accurate position at the lower end edge of the page mark is printed (step S7) and then specified printing is performed (step S5) before ending the processing.
