PURPOSE: To move a guide by means of button operation by a method wherein a user operates a space designation button to determine an arbitrary interlinear length, and pushes a line shift button to move a guide along a scale by means of a driving part.

CONSTITUTION: A reference document 11 is fixed by a paper sheet presser 16 and a guide 12 is set at a reading start line. Next, interlinear width is designated by a space designation button 14 at 1mm pitch within a range of 5 to 100mm in accordance with a space per line in the reference document. Pushing of a (+) button of the space designation button 14 widens the interlinear space while pushing of a (-) button narrows the space, and the interlinear length is displayed on a space display part 18 positioned upward of the space designation button 14. When a lower portion of a line shift button 15 is pressed once after finish of first line reading, the guide 12 is moved downward by a driving part 17 incorporated in a bookrest S by an interlinear length designated by the user to indicate a second line.
