The bookstand comprises a flat board 3 on which a book 2 is mounted, operation parts 6a and 6b operated by the user, displacement parts 7a and 7b connected to the operation parts 6a and 6b through a predetermined mechanism, at least one of which is disposed on either left or right side of the center of the flat board 3 along the upper side of the flat board 3, and which are displaced according to the operation of the operation parts 6a and 6b, and arms 8a and 8b connected to the displacement parts 7a and 7b for restraining or releasing the restraint of opened left and right pages of the book 2 according to the displacement of the displacement parts 7a and 7b.
