Abstract:

To provide a composite material which can produce a structural member having excellent grindability regardless of a composite material with high specific rigidity utilizing the high specific rigidity of boron carbide.

The composite material is mainly composed of boron carbide, silicon carbide and silicon. Provided that the peak intensity belonging to the (021) face of boron carbide measured by X-ray diffraction is defined as X, the peak intensity belonging to the (006) face of the silicon carbide is defined as Y and the peak intensity belonging to the (111) face of the silicon is defined as Z, the peak intensity ratio x of the boron carbide as the ratio (%) of the peak intensity X to the total (X+Y+Z) of each peak intensity satisfies 5<x<30.
