In this both faced emission type fluorescent emission device having an envelope comprising a cathode substrate 1, a first anode substrate 2 having a first anode electrode 8 disposed face to face with the one face of the cathode substrate 1 while having a phosphor 9 applied to the face facing the cathode substrate 1, and a second anode substrate 3 having a second anode electrode 10 disposed face to face with the other face of the cathode substrate 1 while having the phosphor 9 applied on the face facing the cathode substrate 1, the cathode substrate 1 severally faces the first anode electrode 8 and the second anode electrode 10 and an emitter 7 comprising an electrical field discharging cathode selectively addressable is formed on both faces of the base.
