Title:
BOTTOM POURING INGOT-MAKING METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0422537
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To display sufficient heat insulating effect and to obtain an ingot having excellent quality by putting a feeder head cover body hanging exothermic material at upper end of a mold and casting molten metal into the mold with bottom pouring.

CONSTITUTION: At the time of pouring the molten metal into the mold 1 with the bottom pouring, the molten metal is raised in the mold and brought into contact with the powdery exothermic material 9 hung from the feeder head cover body 7 and the material 9 is released on the molten metal surface. Then, the powdery exothermic material 9 develops the exothermic reaction, but as atmosphere on the molten metal surface is shut off from the outside air with the feeder head cover body 7, the exothermic efficiency is improved with this heat insulating effect. Therefore, inner defect near the surface layer in the ingot is not developed and the ingot has excellent quality.
