Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce swings up and down of a box-shaped floating structure such as a plant vessel by relating the structure length-width ratio specifically to the width-draft ratio so that the natural frequency of up-down swings of the structure installed in the vertical wave condition is identical to the minimum period of the wave power.
CONSTITUTION: The longitudinal direction of a box-shaped floating structure 1 is made identical to the incident direction of a wave 2, and it is so arranged that the wave 2 acts as a vertical wave. Therein the length L, width B, and draft (d) of the floating structure 1 are set so that the relation of the ratio L/B to the ratio B/d meets the formula given in the attached illustration. Setting in this manner causes that the position where the vertical direction wave power in the vertical wave minimizes is identical substantially to the harmonic point of up-down swings, which can thereby lessened.
