PURPOSE: To prevent generation of voids in the inside of both ends of a box type metallic sleeper, and also to improve preventive performance of depression.
CONSTITUTION: The height of a sleeper 1 at both end parts 10 of the outside parts from the rail connecting parts 5 is formed so as to be lower than those of the other parts. Both end faces 11 of the sleeper 1 are formed so as to be a flat V-letter shape in a plan view so that their central parts withdraw toward the middle of the sleeper 1. The cross section of the sleeper 1 has a trapezoidal shape whose bottom side is longer than the top side. So, at both of the low end parts 10, cramming of ballast 2 into the sleeper 1 is performed well, and generation of voids is prevented. When side pressure acts on the sleeper 1, the ballast 2 comes together to the central portion of the sleeper 1, because of the flat V-letter shape of both end faces 11, and resistance force is generated. Furthermore, depression of the sleeper 1 is prevented because of the trapezoidal shape of its cross section.
