PURPOSE: To prevent leakage from the back by forming a cross sectional shape of a braided packing before deformation in a trapezoidal shape where an outer diameter edge being the outer diameter side is longer than an inner diameter edge being the inner diameter side in the case when it is deformed in a ring shape, and setting the cross section in an approximately square shape in the case where it is deformed in the ring shape.

CONSTITUTION: A cross sectional shape of a packing 1 under a condition that it is not deformed in a ring shape or in a coil shape (hereinafter referred to as a coil shape and so on) is formed in an approximately trapezoidal shape by setting length of an outer diameter edge 3 being the outer diameter side longer than length of an inner diameter edge 2 being the inner diameter side in the case when it is deformed in a ring shape and so on. Furthermore, in the case when it is deformed in the ring shape and so on, the cross section is set to be in an approximately square shape. Thereby, in the case when it is deformed, stitches on the outer diameter edge 3 side being longer than the inner diameter edge 2 side are provided sparsely in a small number, and to the contrary, the stitches on the inner diameter edge 2 side are provided densely in a large number, so that leakage from the back can be prevented without creating gaps in the outer peripheral part of the packing.
