PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake control device and a brake control method that can speedily apply suitable brake force to respective vehicles.SOLUTION: A brake control device 20 for a vehicle unit comprises: needed brake force arithmetic parts 36, 66 which compute vehicle needed brake forces Fmx, Ftx of a motor vehicle and a trailer vehicle and a unit needed brake force Fu consisting of the total of those vehicle needed brake forces Fmx, Ftx on the basis of actual decelerations βrm, βrt detected for the motor vehicle and trailer vehicle; and an electropneumatic arithmetic part 39 which distributes a unit needed brake force Fu to the motor vehicle and trailer vehicle respectively.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
