Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the visual information on a position of a brake clinder.piston in a case when a brake cylinder device is located remotely from a convenient viewing area on a rolling stock.
SOLUTION: An indicator rod 56 extending from a brake cylinder device to a viewing area where the brake cylinder piston travel may be determined by the relationship of the indicator rod end with respect to a reference point, is connected to a piston hollow rod 18 by a bearing assembly 40 including a hollow rod collar, and the bearing assembly 40 provides for relative rotation between the indicator rod 56 and the hollow rod 18, and transmits the axial movement of the piston to the indicator rod 56. The relative rotation is necessitated by the fact that the piston and the hollow rod 18 typically rotated during reciprocal movement between a brake application position and a brake release position due to torsional force imparted by a piston return spring.
