To prevent an unnatural feeling from being produced during a brake operation by limiting a driving current supplied to the solenoid of a fluid pressure controller such that a target fluid pressure does not exceed a fluid pressure from an external fluid pressure supply source.
When a brake pedal 1 is stepped on, a master cylinder pressure, a wheel cylinder pressure and an external fluid pressure are respectively detected by pressure sensors 9, 10 and 4E, each detecting signal is transmitted to a controller ECU 30 and, based on the master cylinder pressure, the target fluid pressure of the wheel cylinder pressure is calculated. Then, the target fluid pressure calculated by the controller ECU 30 is limited to a fluid pressure to be acted on a wheel cylinder 3 from an external fluid pressure supply source 4 via a fluid pressure amplifier 31. In order to give this limited target fluid pressure to the wheel cylinder 3, a driving current is supplied from the controller ECU 30 to the solenoid 22 of a fluid pressure control valve 5. Thus, during sudden braking sticking of a spool 16 to one end of a body 11 is prevented.
