Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a brake material for elevator emergency stoppers which has heat resistance and a stably high coefficient of friction even under high- speed high-stress conditions and has excellent seizing resistance on a rail.
SOLUTION: This material comprises a ceramic matrix selected from among silicon nitride, titanium boride, Sialon, and silicon carbide and, dispersed therein, silicon carbide whiskers and/or platy silicon carbide particles (platelets). It has a content of the whiskers and/or platelets of 10wt.% or higher.
