PURPOSE: To obtain a brake pad high in frictional coefficient ranging from low loading to high loading by providing a heat barrier low in both thermal conductivity and hardness between a friction member and a back metal, and thereby exposing the heat barrier member to a part of the friction member.
CONSTITUTION: Both of the surfaces of a heat barrier 2 are formed with projections 2a and 2b which are made of a material same as that of the heat barrier 2. The projections 2a and 2b are coupled in each through hole 1a of a friction member 1 and in each through hole 3a of a back metal 3, and the friction member 1 and the back metal 3 are integrated into one via the heat barrier 2. The exposed surface of each projection 2a is in the same level with the surface of the friction member 1 so that it forms a friction surface 4 together with the surface of the friction member 1. The total of the exposed areas of the projections 2a to the whole area of the friction surface 4 shall be roughly about 10%. The heat barrier 2 shall be low in both thermal conductivity and hardness as compared with the friction member 1.
