PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake system, a brake system control method, and a brake system abnormality diagnosis method capable of achieving cost reduction by suppressing the capability of a vacuum pump to a necessary minimum.SOLUTION: According to one aspect of the present invention, in a brake system 1, a relative pressure of a target booster negative pressure Ao to an atmospheric pressure Pa is set to a predetermined target pressure -A if the atmospheric pressure Pa is a high pressure equal to or higher than a predetermined pressure Pa_L, and set to a lower pressure than the predetermined pressure -A if the atmospheric pressure Pa is a low pressure lower than the predetermined pressure Pa_L. A relative pressure of a pump generated negative pressure pp to the atmospheric pressure Pa is set to a higher negative pressure than the relative pressure of the target booster negative pressure Ao to the atmospheric pressure Pa and to a lower negative pressure than the predetermined target pressure -A if the atmospheric pressure Pa is lower than a predetermined pressure Pa_X lower than the predetermined pressure Pa_L.
