In the brake system 1 of a saddle boarding type vehicle provided with front and rear side braking mechanisms 2 and 3 independent of each other and an assist mechanism 4 for assisting the braking operations by the front and rear side braking mechanisms 2 and 3, the front and rear side braking mechanisms 2 and 3 are kept in independent states until a specified assist generation condition is satisfied, and an assist control means (ECU) is provided for causing the assist mechanism 4 to execute its assisting operation when the assist generation condition is satisfied.
