To provide a braking mechanism for a linear motor device for giving long-time stable braking actuation to travelling parts which is heavily loaded and on which a great inertial force operates and for contributing to the stable driving of linear motors by normally assisting the sliding guide of the travelling parts.
The braking mechanism 2 which has a brake pad 24 freely movable forwards and backwards to a guide 6 of the linear motor device having travelling parts 1, 4 and 5 for sliding along the guide 6 with the drive of the linear motors 8, 9 is provided in a slider 5 for the travelling parts. A friction sliding plate 28 is mounted either on the side of the guide 6 or on the side of the brake pad 24 for functioning the brake pad 24 as a sliding material put in sliding engagement with the guide 6 in a normal condition and for functioning it as a friction member put in pressure-contacting engagement with the guide 6 in emergency.
