To provide a braking mechanism for a linear substance running device capable of obtaining an effective braking force even on a steep slope, capable of applying a braking force only when required, and easily fittable to an aerial line.
This is a braking mechanism for a linear substance running device which runs along a linear substance by traction, and is provided with a frame 2 fixed to the running device, a fixed sliding member 3 fitted to the frame 2, and a movable sliding member 4 which interposes the linear substance inbetween along with the fixed member 3. The movable member 4 is fixed to one end of a lever 5. The lever 5 has a rotating shaft 18 in its intermediate part, and a tracting portion at the other end. A pressing mechanism having a feed screw 6 and a spring 31 is provided between the lever 5 and the tracting portion 7. When it is not tracted, the lever 5 is rotated by the force of the spring 31, and the movable member 4 is pressed to the linear substance. On that occasion, the lever body functions as a lever, and a strong pressing force is generated.
