Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel braking system including a torque converter for functioning as an auxiliary brake.SOLUTION: A braking system 100 includes a torque converter 1 and a control part 80. The torque converter 1 includes a pump shell 11, a turbine shell 12 connected to an input shaft 51 of a transmission via a carrier 42 of a speed increasing planetary gear train 41 to which a sun gear 411 is fixed, and adapted to be rotated integrally with the input shaft 51, a lock-up clutch 21, and a retarder operation changeover clutch 44 through the engagement of which a ring gear 413 of the speed increasing planetary gear train 41 and a housing 14 are integrally rotated. The control part 80 allows the engagement of the retarder operation changeover clutch 44 and controls the degree of the engagement of the lock-up clutch 21 to control braking force to be generated by the torque converter 1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
