The following branching joint 181 is used in this branching method for the connecting pipe for distributing the refrigerant to the plurality of outdoor units 2, in an air conditioner 1 provided with the plurality of outdoor units 2. The branching joint 181 is provided with a substantially Y-shaped tubular branching part 182, the first branch nozzle 183, the second branch nozzle 184, and the first split tube 186. One end part of the first split tube 186 is a tube member connected to a tip part of the first branch nozzle 183 in execution of piping. The first branch nozzle 183 and the second branch nozzle 184 are arranged to bring a space between the most second-branch-nozzle-184-sided portion in the tip part of the first branch nozzle 183, and a portion nearest to the tip part of the first branch nozzle in the second branch nozzle 184, into 40mm or less.
