Abstract:

To improve desirable characteristics such as hot ductility or the like in a formed body by allowing at least one among three cases applying specified strains at a specified strain rate in a recrystallized temp. region to satisfy.

The brass formed body excellent in hot ductility satisfies at least one among the following conditions: the three cases of the condition in which 160% strains are applied at a strain rate of 0.00083/sec in the recrystallized temp. region, and breaking does not occur, the condition in which 50% strains are applied at a strain rate of 0.0083/sec, and breaking does not occur, and the condition in which 30% strains are applied at a strain rate of 0.083/sec, and breaking does not occur. As for the crystal structure, it is composed of the α+β phases in the recrystallized temp. region, furthermore, the area ratio of the β phases is regulated to 30 to 80%, also, the average grain size is regulated to ≤15 μm, preferably to ≤10 μm, and the α and β phases are uniformly dispersed. The formed body is obtd. by preparing a brass raw material in which the apparent equivalent of Zn is regulated to 37 to 46 wt.% and forming it into a prescribed shape.
