Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a breaking device for a connection rod capable of avoiding chipping off at breaking moment, and of realizing stabilization of surface characteristic of a fracture plane.
SOLUTION: This breaking device of a connection rod for breaking a cap portion and a rod portion by inserting and fitting a half-split type mandrels into an opening portion of a connection rod large end portion to enlarge the opening, comprises first and second supporting members 31, 32 movably disposed on a base of a pallet 24 carrying the connection rod 1, in a direction for separating them from each other, and horizontally supporting the connection rod 1; a half-split type mandrel 36 composed of half portions 37, 38 of the mandrel vertically disposed on the supporting members 31, 32, each peripheral outer surface of the half portions 37, 38 abutting respectively on an inner surface of the opening portion; a wedge 53 having surfaces respectively tapered applied to opposite end faces of respective half-portions of the mandrel for equally separating and enlarging the half-portions of the mandrel; an actuator 51 for exerting a load to the wedge; and controlling means 80 for instantaneously breaking the opening portion by exerting a breaking load after each half-portion of the mandrel is applied to the inner surface of the opening portion by exerting an initial load to the actuator.
