PURPOSE: To make it possible to always obtain a film photograph with constant density so as to improve the accuracy and the efficiency of a diagnosis by detecting, in association with a compression plate, the thickness of a breast and, using the thickness detection signal to control the time until transmission of X-ray radiation stop signal.
CONSTITUTION: The position of compression plate 8, a part of a compression mechanism, is detected by the potentiometer 14 for thickness detection of an object, while a signal obtained from an X-ray transmitted through the object is integrated by a Miller integration circuit 15, and a comparator 20 detects that the integrated value reached a preset value. The level of comparation reference voltage of the comparator 20 is changed by an electric signal of said thickness of the object, and is used for compensating the density variation of a film which is caused when the thickness of the object (the breast) changes. In this way, film photographs with constant density can be obtained all the time, thus the accuracy and the efficiency of a breast X-ray diagnosis can be improved.
