Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a breather device 60 having a structure that even when installed at a part easily subject to water or mud splash such as an in-wheel motor drive device, hardly allows water or mud splash to fall on suction and discharge ports of a breather pipe 62 and hardly sucks in foreign matters such as water and mud.SOLUTION: A breather device 60 adjusts internal pressure of a casing 22 for lubrication and cooling in the casing 22 and is provided with a breather pipe 62 for air intake and exhaust in a through hole in an upper part of the casing that communicates with the outside. In the breather device, an umbrella-shaped hood 63 is installed to cover the breather pipe 62 projecting to the outside of the casing 22, and a valve element 64 is provided which is formed of an elastic body, and cuts off ventilation between the inner peripheral surface of the umbrella-shaped hood 63 and the outer peripheral surface of the breather pipe 62 when no internal pressure fluctuation in the casing 22 occurs, and forms a gap for air intake and exhaust between the inner peripheral surface of the umbrella-shaped hood 63 and the outer peripheral surface of the breather pipe 62 when internal pressure fluctuation in the casing 22 occurs.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
