To provide a bright coating film forming method which obviates the occurrence of unevenness in the bright feel of a coating film formed by making the orientation of a large-grain size brightening agent on the surface of the coating film uniform with respect to the fine ruggedness on the coating film surface caused by polishing treatment even when the under coating film is subjected to this polishing treatment by water polishing paper as the repair for the adhesion of the dust, lumps, or the like, adhered onto the coating film and a coated material coated by this method.
The method of forming bright base coating films containing flaky brightening agents by plural stages on a base material and forming a top clear coating film on the bright base coating films consists of a coating film forming process step as a first stage of initially forming the bright base coating film on the base material and a coating film forming process step as the second and subsequent stages of forming the bright base coating films further on the coating film formed by this coating film forming process step. The coating film of the first stage of the bright base coating films described above is formed by using the bright coating material containing a small-grain size flaky brightening agent not greater in the average particle size than the average particle size of the large-grain size flaky brightening agent included in the bright coating materials used for the formation of the bright base coating films of the second and subsequent stages.
