A broadcasting receiver includes: multiple branches which respectively and independently receive broadcasting signals; combination means for performing diversity combination through the use of branch signals from the multiple branches; quality detection means for detecting a reception signal quality, based on an output signal of the combination means; connection shutdown means for selectively shutting down the connection of the multiple branches with respect to the combination means when a detection result does not satisfy a primary reception signal quality; and quality determination means for determining whether the reception signal quality is improved based on the output signal of the combination means when the multiple branches are selectively shut-down. The broadcasting receiver is configured such that, when the improvement of the reception signal quality is determined, the combination means performs the diversity combination through the use of the branch signals other than the shutdown branch where the connection to the combination means is shut-down.
