Abstract:

To provide a brush abnormality detector for a rotary electric machine that can detect abrasion of a brush by using an existing electrical circuit.

When a brush 5a is abrading away, a moving contact point 7a fixed to the brush 5a approaches to a slip ring 4a, and finally comes into contact with the slip ring 4a. When a switch 10 and a switching element S4 are turned on under this state, current from a battery 9 successively flows through the switch 10, the moving contact point 7a, the slip ring 4a, the brush 5a, an output terminal Pu and the switching element S4. At this time, the current is detected by an ammeter 11, and the detection value is transmitted to ECU 13. Upon the current detection of the ammeter 11, ECU 13 determines that any one of brushes 5a, 5b, 5c is worn, and actuates an alarm device 14.
