To provide a brush device that allows contact pressure on a contact surface between a commutator and a brush to be different on an upstream side, and on a downstream side, in a rotational direction of the commutator so as to produce a difference in contact resistance and that thereby prevents spark discharge caused when the brush and the commutator become separated from each other, and to provide a motor having the brush device.

A brush device includes: a brush main body 11 that has a contact surface T, which comes into contact with a commutator 4 that is rotated in a single direction, on a forward end surface thereof in a thickness direction; and urging means 13 that urges the brush main body 11 in a direction of the commutator 4. The urging means 13 presses the brush main body 11 against an upstream side of the contact surface T in a rotational direction of the commutator 4.
