To provide a brush device having a terminal plate disposed on a brush holder after the brush member is spot-welded, and to provide a self starter motor manufactured using the brush device.

The brush device includes a first terminal plate, a second terminal plate, and first and second brush members connected to the first and second terminal plates, respectively. The first and second terminal plates each have a body disposed on the substantial center of the first and second terminal plates, a first planar conduction connection to which the first brush member is connected, and a second planar conduction connection to which the second brush member is connected, wherein the first and second conduction connecting members are upright in a vertical direction. With this configuration, an electrode can be made close to the first and second conduction connections, and after the first and second brush members are spot-welded to the terminal plates and the terminal plates are disposed to the brush holder.
