To keep a sound surface state generating no fungi or no discoloration on a building material comprising a cement compsn. such as a roofing material or an outer wall material by imparting antifungal effect to the building material.
A building material has a laminated structure consisting of a substrate layer 11 and a surface layer 12 containing an antifungal component (fungicide). The fungicide is a titanate compd. powder wherein alkali metal ions of alkali metal titanate are partially or wholly substituted with antifungal metal ions (silver, copper or zinc ions). This building material is produced by forming a layer comprising a compsn. containing a fungicide on the surface of a molded object becoming the substrate layer 11 to cure the same. As the effect of the crystal structure of the fungicide, continuous elution of antifungal metal ions is performed and antifungal effect is stably held over a long period of time by the integral bonding of the surface layer and the substrate layer.
