PURPOSE: To provide a building material having high uniformity of material, excellent deodorizing, antimold and antimicrobial functions, high strength, and excellent durability which can be easily produced and easily worked into a desired form, and to provide an easy method of production thereof.
CONSTITUTION: This material has such a structure that the surface and the area near the surface consists of a metal mixture essentially consisting of titanium oxide 10 and metal selected from platinum, palladium, etc., or a compsite body 14 of titanium and metal and that the inner area consists of a metal mixture of titanium 12 and metal selected from platinum, palladium, etc., or the composite body 14 of titanium and metal. The structure is continuous from the surface to the inner area. This building material is obtd. by producing a metal mixture, namely an alloy of titanium 12 and metal selected from platinum, palladium, etc., or the composite body 14 of titanium and metal, then working the alloy into a desired form, and subjecting the body to oxidation treatment.
