PURPOSE: To obtain a roll excellent in resistance to wear by forming a built- up layer with a Ni-base alloy containing the specific amount of carbile metal.

CONSTITUTION: A mixed powder, consisting of 20W60vol% carbide metal, e.g. WC, of ≥50 mesh and the balance Ni or Ni-base powder, is build-up welded on the roll surface of a roll by plasma welding. Successively, the welded roll is annealed at 500W700°C for removing a residual stress in the welded part.
