Abstract:
PURPOSE:To achieve a strong connection of cam pieces with a hollow shaft while preventing the cracking of cam pieces by including the ring-shaped bulged parts, formed on the hollow shaft by bulging, along the inclined side surfaces formed on each cam piece. CONSTITUTION:A cam piece 3 is formed in a ring shape having a through hole 5 which is of a true circular form and penetrating in the axial direction. In this case, on the side surfaces of each cam piece 3 in the direction perpendicular to toe axis, inclined side surfaces 8, 9 which intersect with the open periphery parts 6, 7 of the through hole 5 are formed in such a way that the breadth of the cam piece 3 in the axial direction becomes gradually narrower in the direction toward the top part of cam lift. At the time of assembling a camshaft 1, after cam pieces 3 are inserted into a hollow shaft 2 and they are set in a bulge lower mold 12, an injection nozzle 13 and a shaft-end holder 15 are pushed in at the same time to compress the hollow shaft 2. And the hollow shaft 2 is bulged in diameter to form ring-shaped bulged parts 17 along the inclined side surfaces 8, 9. Thus, the relative rotation and the axial movement of cam pieces 3 and the hollow shaft 2 can be prevented.
