A bumper member 1 for a vehicle is installed at the front or rear of a vehicle body, and is formed of a long member extending in a vehicle width direction. The bumper member further includes a bumper body 7 having an open side facing the outside of the vehicle and two rectangular projections 3, 5 projecting inward in an axially orthogonal cross-sectional shape when installed on the vehicle body, and a reinforcing plate 9 formed of a flat plate material installed to cover the opening on the opening side of the bumper body 7. The thickness of the reinforcing plate 9 is set to be smaller than that of the bumper body 7.
