To heat the surface to be heated, namely the inner wall of a combustion chamber so as to have substantially an even degree of heating in both the circumferential and axial directions, in a burner wherein two kinds of fuels, namely low calorie and high calorie fuels, are interchangeably burned as in a burner for a hydrogen separation type reformer.
The burner comprises an inner low calorie fuel path 21, a high calorie fuel path 22 which is provided outside the path 21 in the radial direction, and an oxidizer path 23 which is provided outside the path 22 in the radial direction. All are concentrically arranged with a common central axis L. The end nozzle portion of the path 21 and the path 22 is formed so that fuel is injected in a direction which is outwardly inclined with respect to the axis L.
