Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a high-strength butt joint by eliminating the need for a jig for maintaining a butt state at the time of executing butt welding by a laser beam.
CONSTITUTION: Projecting parts 3, 8 for welding of both Al allay sheets 1, 2 in a butt welding method by the laser beam are butted against each other and the projecting part 5 for engagement of the one Al allay sheet 1 is engaged with a recessed part 10 for engagement of another Al alloy sheet 2, by which the butt state is maintained and gaps 17, 18 are formed forward in a direction (b) to be irradiated with the laser beam in the butt parts 15, 16 of both projecting parts 3, 8 for welding. Both projecting parts 3, 8 for welding are then joined by irradiating the butt parts 15, 16 with the laser beam. The Al2O3 films existing on the surfaces on the front side of the direction (b) to be irradiated with the laser beam of both projecting parts 3, 8 for welding are extruded into the gaps 17, 18 by the molten pool and, therefore, the formation of a notch by biting into a weld zone 19 does not arise.
