Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a butterfly valve assembly that is simple, efficient, and can give variable flow rate.
CONSTITUTION: This butterfly valve assembly 10 comprises a housing, defining a plurality of through-flow passages 28, 30, 32 having separate butterfly valve elements 12, 14, 16. The butterfly valve elements are pivotally mounted adjacent to the respective through-flow passages. The butterfly valve elements block the flow overlying and passing through the associated through-flow passages in a first position and permit the flow when pivoted to a second position. The respective butterfly valve elements are pivotally attached by means of separate hinge means 20, 22, 24. The respective hinge means act to bias the respective valve elements toward the first position with pre-selected force. The respective hinge means provided to the respective butterfly valve elements proved different pre-selected biasing forces respectively. Therefore, the number of the valve elements for moving toward the second position at any point depends upon the current pressure level of the fluid at the upstream side of the valve assembly.
