PURPOSE: To prevent papers from being disturbed when air trapped among stacked paper sheets is removed by means of a paper retainer plate, etc., after a table carrying the paper sheets being returned to its horizontal position, by providing a paper retainer member which may be elevated to a position near to the butted and aligned end face of the stacked paper sheets and which butts the end section of the stacked paper sheets against the table.

CONSTITUTION: A bracket 40 holding a support fixture 46 is attached to each end of a side plate 3, and a linear bearing 43 and an air cylinder 44 are secured to each end of a frame 42 for a table 2. Further, the front ends of a piston rod 45 and a guide rod 41 are both secured to the support fixture 46. Further, brackets 29 and guides 30 are attached to the frame 21 of the side plate 3, for supporting air cylinders 44 and paper retainers 32, and therefore, a plurality of sets of paper retainer members 32 and obtained. After paper sheets 22 on the table 2 are butted against and aligned by the side plate 3, a paper retainer 32 is advanced by the cylinder 44 which then lowers the paper retainer 32 through the intermediary of the side plate 3 to press one end of the stacked paper sheets 22 against the table 2 for securing the paper.
