Abstract:
A system for measuring and prompting chest compressions to facilitate the effective administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), said system comprising: a hand-held device; a displacement detector carried by the hand-held device for producing a displacement-indicative signal indicative of the displacement of a CPR recipient's chest toward the recipient's spine, wherein said displacement detector comprises an accelerometer producing a measured acceleration signal; a converter for converting said acceleration signal into a distance value; and a signaling mechanism for providing chest compression indication signals directing a chest compression force being applied to the chest and a frequency of compressions to bring and maintain the frequency of compressions within a desired frequency range and to bring and maintain the chest displacements within a desired distance range.
