PURPOSE: To make the space for storing cable at the transport of a printer unnecessary by a method wherein the cable is housed in the space of a printer head carrier by means of a fixed guide roller and a movable guide roller.

CONSTITUTION: When a connector 13 is pulled out in order to use a printer, a sleeve 2 is moved rightwards against the moving tendency of a spring by being guided with a shaft 1 so as to arrive at the right end. When the sleeve arrives at the right end position, a cable is locked immovably by actuating a cable locking mechanism 8. Under the state that the cable is pulled out, the sleeve 2, a movable guide roller 3 and the cable 4 retreat to the right end, resulting in allowing a printer head carrier 11 to move freely. In order to house the cable 4, a locking releasing switch 9 is depressed so as to release the cable 4, resulting in pulling back the sleeve 2 by the moving tendency of the spring 5.
