A worm wheel 30 rotated by the assist motor 39 is connected integrally together with the driven pulley 27, the worm wheel 30 and the driven pulley 27 are arranged coaxially around an outer circumference of a steering rod 7 supported slidably to the steering gear box 3, and at least one out of the worm wheel 30 and the driven pulley 27 is drive-connected to the steering rod 7 by a screw mechanism 34.
