PURPOSE: To provide a cement calcination apparatus which is improved in thermal efficiency, is increased in calcination capability and is reduced in heat consumption.

CONSTITUTION: The calcination apparatus existing between a preheater and a rotary firing furnace is provided with an upper classification chamber (3a), a lower classification chamber (3b) and fuel gasification means (14, 14a, 14b). A means (9) for discharging calcined raw material to the lowest stage cyclone (C1) is connected to the upper classification chamber (3a) and the lower classification chamber (3b) communicates therewith. One or more supply means (5, 5a, 5b) of air for combustion admitted from a clinker cooler (2) are connected to the lower classification chamber (3b) and are provided with a means (8a) for introducing the high-temp. waste gases from the rotary furnace (1). One or more raw material supply means (7, 7a, 7b) are connected to these supply means (5, 5a, 5b).
