PURPOSE: To calcine the powder material efficently while using pulverized coal or the like and a small-type device by a method wherein a calcining furnace is provided between a suspension preheater and a rotary kiln, and a powder trapping chamber at the upper part of the furnace is connected with a middle part of the furnace through a duct.

CONSTITUTION: In the calcining device for the powder material such as raw materials of cement or the like, the calcining furnace 1 is provided which is communicated through a rising duct 7 with an inlet chamber placed at the end of the rotary kiln 15. Circulating ducts 12 are extended from the powder trapping chamber 11 beneath the peripheral part of a ceiling wall 10 of an upper part body 2 of the furnace 1 and are communicated with appropriate parts of a middle body 4 or a lower body 3 of the furnace 3. Exhaust gas, combustion air, the preheated powder material and the pulverized coal (used as fuel) are fed into the furnace 1 through the duct 7, a duct 18, a chute 8 and a burner 2 respectively and calcination is conducted. In this case, particles of larger diameters are classified by the centrifugal force of a swirl and are circulated. Accordingly, the fuel can be completely burned at a high efficiency and the calcining rate of the material can be enhanced while using the small-type device.
