PURPOSE: To provide new coating technology for forming a dense β-tricalcium phosphate film on an alumina based material.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of the alumina and alumina zirconia conjugated material is coated with a slurry of calcium metaphosphate and heat-treated to fuse it to the surface. The resulting surface is further coated with a slurry of a mixture of adequate amounts of calcium metaphosphate and tetracalcium phosphate, and then subjected to thermal reaction to form β-tricalcium phosphate on the surface of the object ceramics. As the phase transition of β-tricalcium phosphate to the α-phase is inhibited, a heat treatment at >1,300°C can be performed and, therefore, the denser coating film can be formed. Furthermore, any expensive and exclusive machine is not required and, accordingly, a running cost reduction can be attained at the time of producing the subject material product.
